Jeweller Quote Builder

A customer asks what a piece will cost. This builds that figure line by line β€” the metal actually in the piece after any stones are deducted, then your own wastage, labour, material costs, margin and tax β€” so every part of the quote can be shown and defended, rather than handed over as one unexplained number.

UnavailableChecking the platform reference…

Build a customer quote line by line β€” net metal weight after any stone deduction, fine gold content, then your own wastage, making charge, material costs, margin and tax β€” using the platform's reference Gold price or a price you enter yourself.

The piece

The as-weighed total, including any stones or settings

Leave blank for none β€” contributes zero

Gold price

Checking the platform reference price… Net metal weight and fine gold weight are still shown below β€” switch to Manual price to enter your own and build a full quote.

Your charges β€” all optional, all yours

Leave any field blank and it contributes nothing. This platform has no assumed wastage, making charge, material cost, margin or tax rate for any market.

Applied to the metal value

Applied to the metal value

Flat labour amount, added on top of any percentage

Stones, findings, plating, certification β€” not labour

Applied to the cost subtotal

Applied to the subtotal before tax

Enter a gross weight to build a quote. Net metal weight and fine gold weight appear as soon as a weight is entered, with or without a Gold price.

How this is calculated

Net metal weight = gross weight βˆ’ stone/non-gold deduction, applied before any purity math. A deduction greater than the gross weight is rejected outright β€” a piece cannot contain a negative amount of metal.

Fine gold weight = net metal weight Γ— purity fraction (14K = 14/24, and so on), then metal value = fine gold weight Γ— your Gold price. Both need no charges at all.

Wastage and the making charge percentage are applied to the metal value β€” the common jewellery convention. A flat making amount and your material / job cost are added on top, giving the cost subtotal. Margin is then charged on that subtotal, and tax on everything before it, giving the customer quote total.

Every percentage is shown next to the subtotal it was taken of, because three different bases are in play. This is arithmetic on your own figures β€” not a recommended price, an appraisal, or a guaranteed offer. No discount is applied: its position relative to tax changes the total, so it is not assumed here.

The order of operations, stated in full

Charging tax before a margin, or wastage on the worked piece rather than on the metal, changes the customer total β€” and real shops differ. This calculator commits to one order, states it here, and shows every intermediate subtotal so you can check it against your own practice rather than trusting a single final figure.

  1. Net metal weight = gross weight βˆ’ stone / non-gold deduction
  2. Fine gold weight = net metal weight Γ— karat fraction
  3. Metal value = fine gold weight Γ— Gold price
  4. + Wastage = wastage % of the metal value
  5. + Making charge = making % of the metal value, plus any flat making amount
  6. + Material / job cost = the flat amount you enter
  7. = Cost subtotal
  8. + Margin = margin % of the cost subtotal
  9. = Subtotal before tax
  10. + Tax = tax % of the subtotal before tax
  11. = Customer quote total

How this differs from the Jewellery Value Calculator

The Jewellery Value Calculator exists to take a bill you have already been given apart, and it always uses this platform's reference price. It treats the weight you enter as entirely metal, which is the right assumption for a plain band and the wrong one for a stone-set piece. This page is built for the other side of the counter: it deducts stone and non-gold weight first, so wastage and making are never charged on gold that is not in the piece, it lets you quote from your own shop rate, and it separates material and job costs from labour. Both use the same calculation engines; neither replaces the other.

What this calculator does not do

It assumes no wastage percentage, making charge, material cost, margin or tax rate for any market β€” every one of them is yours, and a blank field contributes exactly zero. It applies no discount: where a discount falls relative to tax changes the total, so it is not guessed here. It does not fabricate a Gold price either β€” when no verified platform reference is available it says so plainly, and Manual price mode still works with a rate you supply. There is no customer record, job number, saved quote or printable document: this is a calculator, and those are separate features that do not exist yet. The result is arithmetic on your own figures, not a recommended price, an appraisal, or a binding offer.
